3DS BIMcheck — IDS Validation, Clash Detection & Scan Inspection (IFC)

Check your BIM models against the requirements, against each other, and against what is actually standing there. 3DS BIMcheck loads IFC models and point cloud scans in one 3D environment. Standalone Windows tool — no AutoCAD, no heavy workstation, and nothing is uploaded: every point stays on your own computer.

Load & federate

• Federate multiple IFC models on one shared origin — the first model sets the origin, every aspect model inherits the same offset.
• Add point cloud scans (E57, LAS, PTS, XYZ, ASC, TXT) that inherit that origin, with automatic unit detection between millimetres and metres.
• Isolate objects, clip-box sectioning that applies to models and clouds alike, SpaceMouse support.

Check the information

• IDS validation — test the delivered data against an IDS file, the buildingSMART Information Delivery Specification. Rules on entity, attribute, property, classification and material are checked object by object, pass or fail. The Dutch BIM basis ILS is included as a ready-made ruleset; any national or project ruleset in IDS format works the same way.
• Origin & georeference check — position versus 0,0,0, IfcMapConversion with its projected CRS, IfcSite latitude and longitude. Dutch RD/NAP coordinates are recognised and converted.

Check the geometry

• Clash IFC–IFC — real geometric intersections, tested triangle against triangle rather than by bounding box, with an adjustable tolerance. Provisions for voids are recognised so documented penetrations do not clutter the list.
• Compare model revisions — put two versions side by side and see which objects are absent in one of them, and which have moved further than your tolerance allows.

Inspect against the scan

• Clash IFC–scan — flags the solids that the point cloud actually touches, with a minimum-points threshold so stray points trigger nothing. A quick way to see which designed objects are really there.
• Deviation heatmap — the distance between scan and model in millimetres, in colour, so you see where reality and design drift apart.
• Coverage — which solids have no scan points at all. An attention list rather than a percentage: an object may be absent, or simply out of the scanner's sight.

Measure & report

• Measure with snaps to vertices, edge midpoints and scan points; read true IFC coordinates; compute object volume.
• Export to BCF 2.1 with viewpoint, camera and snapshot, written back in true IFC coordinates so it opens correctly in any BIM tool. Clash, scan and IDS results also export to Excel, or to a self-contained HTML report.
